Designing a showcase portfolio website for a designer friend, whom I deeply admire and respect, is both rewarding and terrifying.
As a very young designer, I interned for Sandra McHenry when she worked at Pentagram. She was always very supportive but she also took every opportunity to torment me… in a fun way, of course.
So later, when she asked me to help design a portfolio website to show her work, I was excited to help and definitely scared. My biggest thought after the initial excitement was, “Don’t f**k up! Don’t f**k up! Don’t f**k up!” Once I took a deep breath got over that, I got to work.
The final result is an elegant, functional, clean website with Javascript menus and sliders that I ended up programming as well. Sadly though, this was all before websites had to be responsive.
